Sometimes samples don’t make it to a general release. However, some such as the Nike Dunk High SB Unheavens Gate do wind up at retail.
The shoe is based off of an infamous Nike Dunk High SB “Heaven’s Gate” sample.
The purple, navy and offwhite is already a varied color combination and looks great with a couple different types of outfits. I think a black tee and light or medium wash jeans looks decent with these. Dark denim also combines well with a black top. Attempts to match up the purple come off as corny when I do it, perhaps it can be done but I’ve never pulled it off.
While these weren’t that popular when they released (many felt the sample colorway was way better), the Nike Dunk High SB Unheavens Gate are now a bit tougher to find and command a bit more respect! I tried selling these on eBay but nobody bit. Now I’m glad they didn’t as I get to keep them and do this review!
How Are The Materials?
The uppers are suede and leather. The overall construction and materials does slightly reflect the downhill slide SB started to have in the blue box era, but at this point everything is still basically good. Shape and material quality by today’s standards is awesome although not super buttery. The leather does seem a tad thin overall but is at least pliable. This is also before the dunk retooling took place; which is highly noticeable here since the eyelets are a different color than the toebox.
How Do They Fit?
These fit true to size and are very comfortable. Nike SB at this point had not gone with the “stiffer is better” approach to dunks, so these still break in quickly and feel plush on foot. I may have been able to go down a half size, but I’m happy with my choice at true size as these feel perfect on my feet and don’t look too big, even for high tops.
